Why does swelling/inflammation occur?

At a site of injury, the injured cells release chemokines. The presence of chemokines cause vessel changes. The blood vessels dilate and the membranes of the vessels become more leaky. This causes an outflow of water and proteins. The cheomkines cause neutrophils to marginate (ie move to the sides of the vessels) and hence out of the vessels through the leaky membrane into the surrounding tissues and migrate to the site of injury. As a result, the skin becomes red, swollen and hot.

Hence my face is now red, swollen and hot.

It is not a pleasant feeling.

On a bright note, I popped by hc's house for a mini karaoke session. Thanks to eugene who drove me down. But I only could sing one song then I had to leave. It was really nice seeing everyone again. Well, not everyone, but seeing a few of them was nice. :)

I have become very obsessed with this song that shu recommended to me: Patience by Take That
Just have a little patience.
Still hurting from a love I lost.
I'm feeling your frustration.
Hang on a minute, maybe all the pain will stop*
Just hold me close inside your arms tonight
Don't be too hard on my emotions
*Cuz I need time
My heart is numb, has no feeling
So while I'm still healing,
Just try and have a little patience.
I really wanna start over again
I know you wanna be my salvation
The one that I can always depend
I tried to be strong,
Believe me I'm trying to move on
It's complicated but understand me*
Cuz this scar runs so deep
It's been hard but I have to believe
Have a little patience.. Have a little patience*
Ah well it's something like that. It's a really fantastic song. ugh my fasche ish sho irritating. Hopefully it won't bleed tonight. Bah. Ah well. going to do some work I guess. Nightey!
